Your respite stay at EllieB's: what to expect

At EllieB's, respite is more than a break - it's a safe, welcoming place where people with developmental disabilities can feel comfortable, supported and right at home.

Your Respite Stay at EllieB’s: What to Expect

At EllieB’s we understand that trying respite care for the first time can feel like a big step.

Whether you’re preparing for a stay for yourself or you’re a family member arranging support for someone you care for, it’s natural to have questions about what to expect.

We truly believe respite is about more than providing a break. It’s about creating a safe, welcoming environment where individuals with developmental disabilities can feel comfortable, supported, and right at home.

Before You Arrive

Every person who comes to EllieB’s is unique, which is why we take the time to understand your individual needs, routines, preferences and support requirements before your stay.

We’ll work with you and your family to gather important information, answer any questions and make sure everyone feels confident and prepared.

A little preparation can go a long way in helping your stay feel familiar from the moment you arrive.

Settling In

The first day is all about getting comfortable.

Our friendly support team will help you settle into your accommodation, get familiar with the environment and ease into the rhythm of your stay. Some people feel at home straight away, while others need a little more time (and that’s perfectly okay).

We’ll meet you where you’re at and provide support at a pace that feels right for you. If there is anything that will help you or your loved one settle in easier, please let us know.

During Your Stay

Every respite stay looks a little different because it’s tailored to the individual.

Depending on your goals, interests and support needs, your stay may include:

  • Enjoying favourite activities and hobbies
  • Spending time with peers and making new connections
  • Community outings and experiences
  • Building independence and everyday living skills
  • Relaxing in a safe and supportive environment

Most importantly, you’ll be supported by experienced staff who genuinely care about helping you or your loved one feel comfortable, included and valued. EllieB’s personalised approach means support is shaped around the individual, not the other way around.

For Families and Carers

Respite provides an opportunity for carers and families to rest, recharge and attend to other responsibilities, knowing their loved one is being cared for in a safe and supportive environment. Research consistently shows that respite benefits both participants and their support networks, helping maintain wellbeing and long-term caring relationships.

Many families tell us that after a stay, they not only feel refreshed themselves, but they also see increased confidence, independence and enjoyment in their loved one.

Heading Home

As every stay comes to an end, we help make the transition home as smooth as possible.

Whether respite becomes a regular part of your support network or was simply needed for a short period, our goal is for every person who stays with us to leave feeling supported, valued and looking forward to their next visit.

Because at EllieB’s, respite isn’t just about taking a break – it’s about finding a place to belong.
