Services
Respite & Short Stays

We understand that whether you have a disability or you care for a person with a disability, making time for yourself is so important.
Our respite and short stays services at Yarnbrook Cottages in northern Adelaide stimulate socialising, build relationships, support independence, and assure peace of mind for all.
If you’re a carer, these services provide you with the opportunity to take time for yourself—knowing your family member will always be in safe hands.
For the person with a disability, our programs offer a trusted place to belong—with access to a wide range of tailored experiences.
Importantly, we host respite and short stays at women’s homes run by women, men’s homes run by men, and mixed homes so there are comfortable spaces for everyone.
Activities and outings we can facilitate include but are not limited to:
- Games
- Parties
- Cooking programs
- Sporting events
- Sensory gardens
- Outdoor entertaining areas
- Specialised gym equipment
- Culturally sensitive services
- Day trips (e.g. to Monarto Zoo, Adelaide Zoo, and local wildlife parks)
- Assisted holidays, such as:
- West Beach holiday retreats with day trips
- Regional seaside towns and resorts during summer months
- Weekend retreats in the tranquil Adelaide Hills
- Carers’ retreats can also be arranged—just ask!
Our onsite coordinators and qualified permanent staff can provide 24/7 support for a single night or more depending on your needs.
Respite and short stays are available for individuals with developmental disabilities aged 7 to 65 years.
We aim to arrange smaller groups with two or three clients to one carer. This ratio can change depending upon individual requirements.
Our team complies with the NDIS Quality & Safeguards Commission and National Worker Screening requirements and holds current first aid certificates. All staff travelling with participants on holidays are accredited to assist them taking medication.
Please note: holiday options are tailored for people with a disability who require minimal personal care and have minimal mobility challenges. If you have higher support needs, we can meet with you to discuss your options.
